Mm, I suppose making signs would be a good thing to do what with this cold snap running. Would anyone like to help? I'm in the apartments today but I should be heading out in a bit to gather up the wood.

It's almost spring~ I can't wait for it to come. I've always so loved the spring. The plums would be in bloom right about now, the festivals going on up at Tenjin-san, the faintest hint of the flowers' scents mingling in the air... I like the cherry blossoms, too, but there's just something wonderful about plum blossoms. Maybe it's because of a poem I heard once.

Actually, I wonder if this place has cherry trees. Come April, they should bloom, if they do.

What do your people do in the spring? Do they celebrate it at all? We have a great many parties under the trees and share sake and other treats while watching them. Kyoto had such beautiful trees everywhere. It was like the entire city was dressed in clouds of pink and white...

My, but I'm nostalgic today. How silly of me.

Even poor Saizo had a hard time before he became my pet. People wanted to eat him.

Haha, he's a regular sized pig. He'll eventually grow up to be as big as his mother, I suppose. Right now, he fits very neatly in my arms since he's still just a baby.

I do miss him a lot. I wonder how he's doing.

Oh, I don't worry so much for him as them. He tends to get grumpy and bite people if I'm not around. He's got such a temper.

...and I hope he doesn't try to sleep with Hijikata-san again. That wouldn't end well.

He's usually very good! But he gets lonesome sometimes and if I'm not there, Hijikata-san is the closest he has, but Hijikata-san doesn't really like him very much so they end up grumping at each other like old men. Tetsu-kun would probably throw him and then they'd never sleep because Saizo would spend the entire night trying to attack his face.

That doesn't make him sound like a good pet at all, does he? I think he'll be alright, but I do wish I could see him again and confirm for myself.
