So much bloodshed. The clown named Kefka and now Vash-san. It's forbidden to get involved in private fights, but things like this make me wonder. How far should I follow the Code here? Is it considered protecting the people to take arms as a captain, or is it merely foolish of me to assume they even need protecting? Do I even have the strength to help?

The people here fight with fire and magic, things I can't comprehend. They heal with a touch and kill despite the impermanency of death. I fill my days with training and frivolous pursuits, music and art, helping at the Center, but my heart is heavy. We were men charged with war, with keeping the peace and killing our enemies. These enemies are foreign, worse than the rebels, worse than the foreign evil that came upon our shores and forced us into a treaty at the threat of annihilation.

I have no idea how to fight anymore.

It seems there's quite the commotion going on. Is everyone alright? And has anyone seen Sasarai-san?

Anyway, the Welcome Center is open to help New Feathers, the new arrivals, with adjusting to life here in Luceti. Please feel free to stop by anytime, or call upon myself, Sasarai-san, Martel-san, or anyone else who works at the Center. We can provide lodging and warm food and drink to help you weather the winter. Of course, that goes to anyone! Even those who have been here awhile. It's always nice to see friendly faces, hm?

Hijiri-kun? I'll be by later on to finally take you up on the music lessons, if that is alright with you? I'm afraid I was quite busy with the New Years and all.

Which is what I feared... To deal with one like him will involve more death, but when he returns will you two be locked in eternal combat - sending each other to the grave over and over until there is nothing left to take?

[She's quiet for a while. The automatic reaction even now is that Luffy won't lose, because he never does unless it's the Malnosso. On the other hand, even if that were absolutely the case, the idea of him murdering Yuber over and over and over - like he's threatened to do - is a horrible one.

And very much unlike Luffy.]

If there was another way, I'd gladly take it. I'm still looking for another way. But ...I think if it comes down to killing him more than once or sitting back and letting him pick off the villagers, I know which Luffy will take.

Is it really that much of a certainty that he will? Up until this incident, I've not heard of him killing anyone.

He killed a deer not too long ago, just for the sheer "fun" of having it scream and bleed. He's entertained by it. He said much the same thing about killing Vash. And I've got other reasons to believe he'll do it again. Probably the moment he's bored, he'll start looking for another victim.

[...]

He told me my screams were quite entertaining. This isn't something a once-off killer would say, Okita.

...Then it will be a war between you all until he can no longer come back.

I would suggest taking his head and putting it on a pike, but I don't know if that would keep him from returning or not.

[Wincing at that image.]

...I'm going to keep looking for another solution, at any rate.

[Strawhats aren't killers. It'd be a damn shame for Luceti to change that.]

[Sorry, Nami. He's a trained killer.]
I hope you can find one soon. Violence and war only leads to more violence.

[Well, she won't hold it against you. She just doesn't want to be one.]

I know. Especially in a place where you always come back from the dead, huh?

It gives little incentive for a killer to mend his ways - especially if being killed gives him the right of revenge later.

[...because of course if he wanted vengeance, he wouldn't go for Luffy either. He'd go for someone who couldn't fight him off.]

You make some good points there. I guess ... I can see why you're worried.

I come from a world at war, Nami-san. I've seen what killing in revenge can do.

...Luffy's angry. But ... I'll see if I can get him to hold off. You're right. Killing him isn't going to deal with the problem. It'll just make things worse.

You and your friends are good people. I merely dislike seeing such people stain their hands. It's...something one cannot recover from easily.

...you sound like you come from a pretty harsh place.

My country is at war with itself and others. It is only as harsh as it must be until we find a way to peace again.

I can understand that.

Do you think you'll find it?

[identity profile] ahappylie.livejournal.com 2010-01-13 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I am certain we will, but I doubt I will live to see it.

[...that's kind of depressing. And watch Nami jump to the wrong conclusion.]

It'll really take that long?

[Hey, he appreciates that conclusion more than the 'lol u die' conclusion.]
Doesn't it usually?

I guess it can. I hope you're wrong, though.
