Enemies; hatred is a terrible thing |
She was like our big sister at the Mibu compound. She took care of our wounds, helped do our laundry, woke up the men in the morning, cooked all our meals. And then one day she was stolen from us by the Choushu and the traitor Furutaka Shuntaro, aka Masuya Kiemon. We sought revenge for her death, and we got it. We captured and tortured him, forcing him to reveal his plans. Thanks to her sacrifice, we saved the capital from being burned to the ground and were finally recognized by the people of Kyoto as the protectors that we always wanted to be. But that didn't make her death any easier to handle. All of us missed her terribly, and many of us took responsibility for her death in different ways. Both Hijikata-san and Yamazaki-san were the worst affected, but Nagakura-san also had a hard time accepting her loss. To see her again well and happy is beyond our greatest dreams, but our greatest fear that she might be stolen from us again is ever present. She seems to have settled into Luceti well, even finding love. She knows what awaits her if she ever goes home. I hope that day never comes. |
My student here in Luceti. Sokka-kun is the brother of Katara, and one of the more well known residents here. He helps run the blacksmith's store and so I'd run into him a few times, if casually, before meeting him full on. The way I really got to know him is as his teacher. He is the first and only person I've taught here and it's refreshing to have someone under my tutelage again. He wants to learn how to use the sword and how to fight multiple enemies at once, something I can understand quite well. I'm passing my knowledge of the Tennen Rishin style to him and he's done so well at it, even if he still has a ways to go. Sokka-kun is a fast learner and while he isn't a genius, he is inventive and that is the most important trait a swordsman can have. He is determined, but he also knows my secret and sometimes I fear it weighs on him. Sokka-kun has great talent, but he really does need to loosen up a bit. I tricked him into dancing for me when the journals were cursed with music, but that backfired a little and got me, too. It was fine though. I really enjoyed just having fun with him. My dual nature probably annoys him a little since he probably came looking for a fierce and scary teacher, but I think it's more fun to show him both sides. I did the same with the men back at the dojo, anyway. He will be my greatest legacy left here, even if he doesn't know it. |
We first met during a...pretty embarrassing experiment that had me trying to be something called a "Vegas Show Girl." I still don't entirely know what that is, but Derek-san tried to convince me not to do it even as he tried to be as helpful as possible. Since then we've spoken often through the journals and sometimes in person, too. He's a good friend to me here and I value the trust he puts in our relationship. I found him one night out in the forest and discovered that he has a secret like me; only much more deadly. Apparently he's been infected by things called vampires in his world, and when he dies, he'll become one of them. He's keeping this a secret from the general populace though, so I'm doing what I can to keep it, too. Otherwise, Derek-san is pretty good with his hands and he's learning to garden, along with being something of a fighter and a swordsman. He also sings sometimes over the journals and I like listening in to it. I've never heard most of the songs he sings, but they're very interesting. And he cooks. He fed me a few times when I wasn't able to cook for myself and while the foods are strange, they're actually pretty good. For awhile, Derek-san also disappeared, but recently he has returned. Considering the number of times I've lost friends here, I'm still wary that he will leave again, but he seems to be staying this time and I took care of his plant, Spot, for him while he was on a mission. Hopefully, I can learn to be friends with him again. |
Although we haven't spoken much, I met her once or twice and she seems to be a cheery type with interesting friends like Sanji-san and that...green-haired man who fell asleep on the roof in a thunderstorm. And Luffy-san, too. She's part of their crew on a large ship and is apparently quite the leader-figure for them. I never expected a woman to be in such a role. Her spirit and energy impressed me when I first spoke with her, and her friends seem intimately tied to what happens here in the village. I'm going to keep my eye on them all just to see what other fun things they get up to. Besides, she seems to get under Smoker-san's skin and that's always funny to watch. |
The God of War - or rather, the demi-god of it, Homura-san has been hanging about with us since he first arrived in Luceti. He has an arrogance to him, but it isn't the sort that bothers. He is, after all, a god, so I suppose some arrogance is to be expected. What's really important is what has happened since - he seems to have taken to Ayumu-san and the two of them are in a relationship, a deep one if the fact that he lives with us now is any indication. At first, I had my own misgivings about such a thing happening, but she seems happy and despite Homura-san's penchant for pushing buttons that I would rather be left alone, he seems to be doing good things for Ayumu-san. His companionship is important to her, even if she won't recognize it herself, and he has no ill intentions. I think they both just wish to be...happy - a feeling that they both may have been bereft of in life. When the time comes, he'll keep her company, and for that, I am thankful to him. |
When I first met Haruhi-san, she was Haruki-kun. I met Haruki-kun when he mentioned Nagakura-san's name on a list of the missing from his club. That he was trusted enough with Nagakura-san's real name and that Nagakura-san would join such a group was enough to garner my interest in him. But eventually Haruki-kun left and in his place returned the girl known as Suzumiya Haruhi. To her, all of Haruki's memories are her own, and so I've been getting to know her as well. She knows a great deal about us, but more than that, Haruhi-san is just as interesting as her male self. She's unique - a bit eclectic in a way and sometimes more than a little bit petulant, but she's a good person deep down and she cares a great deal for those she has in her club. The club itself is called the S.O.S. Brigade and is one of the most vocal groups here in the village responsible for a good deal of the entertaining happenings here. Haruhi-san seems to hate being bored and likes to talk about the most unusual things. Despite all that, she's otherwise a very normal girl and it's a bit surprising to see how well she's adjusted to this place. |
Such a quiet boy, but a good one. We've met a few times, but like the others Minato-kun refuses to tell me much about the past. It's understandable, sure, but it's getting a bit frustrating. I know some things from what Nagakura-san has told me, but I want to know more. I want to be able to help. Anyway, Minato-kun seems to have a nice group of friends, too, so that's good. I like hanging out with him because even if the boy doesn't say a whole lot, he's usually doing something or other that I find interesting. Recently it was making a snow fortress even if he had no enemies to fight against. One worrisome thing, however, is that Minato-kun seems to fall asleep if left on his own too long. I hope he's not sick or anything. |
Litchi-san came to my aide after I was attacked by the shadow creature known as Pride. As a healer, she and Derek-san made sure I didn't die from the extensive wounds I received at Pride's hands. They then transported me to the Clinic where Litchi-san tended to me until I was well enough to return home. Litchi-san has helped me on several occasions since and I think she is a lovely woman. There was once some trouble with her where she apparently attacked people against her will. She was...killed, but I do not know more than that. Once she returned, she helped me with curing my disease, but was sent home shortly after that. With no one else to turn to that I can trust, I've been trying to sneak the same medicines she gave me from the Clinic from time to time, but they're lowering in efficiency. I have heard she has returned, but without knowing how much she remembers, I'm staying quiet. |
Vash-san is one of the more colorful residents here. Unlike other fighters of his caliber, he prefers the path of peace and will actively try to save even his enemies from injury and death. He has a good heart and no doubt some reason for this, and while I can't agree with his philosophy, I find his conviction to it admirable. He lived nearby when I was still in the Community Building so I often spoke with him or at least greeted him in the halls. He tells me interesting stories about his life back home, too, which I appreciate since I've never been abroad and will likely never get the chance. His friends Meryl and Wolfwood are interesting people, too, but I've only ever spoken briefly to Wolfwood-san and only spoke to Meryl once or twice - most recently when an enemy of Vash's appeared from his world. |
Smoker-san is so amusing~ For someone who looks so scary at first, he's actually a really nice man. He apparently comes from Luffy-san's world, but instead of being on their side, he's one of the 'Marines' or the people who catch pirates. I wasn't aware that what Nami-san and her friends did was illegal, but looking back on it I should have. Smoker-san has a very strict sense of justice, but I think he'd bend the rules a little if it was necessary to do the right thing. He apparently has powers like some people here tend to, and his is to turn his body into smoke. I promised not to tell anyone in return for him showing me one day. I can't wait to see it! It sounds so interesting. He also helped make Saizou a watermelon boat and came to see me when I was ill. For all his big scary toughness, he's just a softy inside, but don't tell him that or he'll growl. ...Or do tell him and you can laugh when he does. He just recently returned from a trip home, so he's a little different now. |
Another resident of Community Building 4, I met him during the Tease invasion and we fought together to protect this place. Hughes-san is a hand-to-hand fighter who works with knives and I offered him a blade in case he needed one. He prefers short knives to full blades. He's a very amiable person otherwise and very helpful to all the new people. He told me that many people think they're dead when they arrive because wings are apparently a symbol of the afterlife for cultures like his. I wonder if that's true though? In Japan, the ghosts never seem to have wings, so I wasn't aware of that idea. He's keeping an eye out for any more New Feathers for me and if I have the chance, I'd like to speak with him more. |
I don't know her very well, although I've seen her about and talked with her a few times. I knew of her more via reputation than actual talking. She and Giles-san had a relationship up until the time he disappeared, and I know she made Giles-san very happy. It is for this reason that I worry for her now that he is gone, but she is surrounded by friends and a tight network of people she trusts, so it is for the best, I suppose. She was originally mute, but due to the magic of their housemate - a man named Helios - she has an amulet that allows her to speak. Ginia-san is very personable and talkative now that she is able, and I wish her luck in her time here. |
He's very pretty. That was my first impression of him. He has hair like the sun and large white wings - which almost made me mistake him for the Third Party. He's very serious and seems to be adjusting to life here, even if having lost his homeland and his ability to fly seems to be bothering him. Reyson-san is called a Laguz and he can transform into a giant heron. I've seen him do this and it's quite magnificent♥ For some reason, being around him makes it easier to stay positive about being in Luceti so I'd like to see him again sometime. He's helping me train Sokka-kun by scaring him sometimes - or so I hope. |
DROPPED CHARACTERS
When Nagakura-san disappeared, a short while later, of all people, Yamazaki Susumu appeared in his place. But he wasn't like I remembered at all. While he still had the quiet, stubborn, obedient personality, he was older, a little softer around the edges, and apparently training to be a doctor. He knew my secret and watched me like a hawk for any signs, which made me want to hide it from him even more. Poor Yamazaki-san shouldn't have to bear the weight of this on his shoulders, too. He'd been adjusting well to the village so far, working at the clinic and getting to know the area and the villagers, when he disappeared. I suppose it was too much to hope that he'd open up to them, but I tried to keep that dream alive.
I know what becomes of him. At his age, considering what he knew, it wouldn't be long and that is a secret I will take with me to the grave. Ayumu-san never seems that interested in reading into the history books, which is good. I continue to destroy them so she can never see. She should never have to see. And for now, Yamazaki-san is safe, at least to us.
As the captain of the 2nd unit and one of my original friends from the Shieikan, Nagakura Shinpachi was naturally one of my closest friends here. More than friends, we're family, and I miss him terribly now that he is gone. He had been here longer than I had and then vanished one day for almost five months, reappearing for a short time before leaving again. I hope he is sleeping better, wherever and whenever he is. I know he survives and for that, I am eternally grateful, even if survival is a curse for people like us. I wish him well, wherever he is, and I hope that the future has not yet come to pass for him. Even a few days longer with our friends, surrounded by that shining time we had, it will be a godsend and a blessing. Be well, Nagakura-san. Maybe one day I'll be able to see you again.
Twice now he has been to this place and twice I have seen him leave. Just when I think I'll never see his grumpy face again, Hijikata-san always turns up. He and Kondo-san are the ones who essentially raised me after I was given to the Shieikan and Kondo-san's family to lessen the burden on my family. I respect him very much and will follow his orders to the best of my ability - but that doesn't mean I have to take it easy on him. Even if he's technically my leader, he's also my favorite person to bother and the most fun to prank. As the assistant to the vice commander, I do my best to make sure he's comfortable. But as his friend? Well, I hope he starts keeping a poetry book again. That is always the best entertainment.
I never realized how much I missed him and how much I relied upon him, until I had to see him leave me twice. Knowing the fate he returns to is no easier, and it pains me to think of it. The world we live in will not be kind to us, less so to him because despite how he likes to be seen, he cares more deeply than I could ever pretend to do. I miss him still and hope his days are still young.
I first met her when she was scared and alone one night. I'm never one to leave a child by themselves when they're scared, but when I met her I realized she is not a human child (or even really a she), but an angel. Kohaku-chan is the most innocent person I've ever met and while I do like to keep tabs on her and keep her safe... I worry that being too close to her will let her see the sort of demon I am and it might scare her. I helped her pick out May 1st as her birthday and I encourage her to keep close to Patchouli Knowledge since their relationship seems to be blossoming into something more than just friendship, or perhaps it already has. They are very attached to each other and I think it's good for both of them. Sometimes I miss speaking with her, but with so many new friends about, it's better that I stay in the background.
After the portal incident with the blue man and being pushed in by that rat Hyuuga, I ended up being thrown over the forest and broke three ribs. I was able to get myself back to the village, but then this curious creature found me. Sonic-san is a blue hedgehog that talks and walks like a person, and he has helped me on more occasions than just the portal incident. We've spoken often after that and even went to war together when we were drafted. He and China-san helped me when my problem caused me to collapse on the battlefield again.
Sonic-san's willingness to help someone he didn't even know has impressed me a great deal. It appears that he and his friends tend to save their world time and time again, so perhaps that is why. I hope we can continue to be friends and stay acquainted with each other.
I only know him by his last name, Ichinomiya, but that's not the only reason he's a bit of a puzzle to me. Ichinomiya-kun comes from the not so distant future and so he might hold the secrets to what happens to me and my friends in our war. The only unfortunate part of this is that he's not telling me a thing - which is the right thing to do, but somewhat annoying. Still, I'd like to talk to him about Japan and its future, to hear what the future will be like since I won't be there to see it.
Ichinomiya-kun also is in contact with the spirits and youkai, which reminds me of Hajime-san a bit. I once made the mistake of calling the youkai his pets and saying they were things, but I've since corrected myself as it seriously offended Ichinomiya-kun. I need to remember to call them 'friends' and 'people' instead.
My interest in Kirimi-chan should be pretty obvious: she's a cute little girl and I love playing with children. She's bright, intelligent and every bit the innocent child she should be at her age. It's refreshing to see such joy being had in the world around her, and it reminds me of the time I spent playing with the neighborhood children back in Kyoto. I take comfort in her laughter and the fun she has just being a child.
It's unfortunate, however, that someone so young has been trapped here, especially since there are so few children her age around. She once had a brother here, but I haven't seen him much about lately. I fear since I've lost touch with Kirimi-chan that it's possible he might have been sent home. I hope she is doing well and that someday we can play together again.
Kamui-kun is the young leader of the Clinic where Yamazaki-san now occasionally works. When I first met him, I was struck by the boy's quiet nature and his responsibility to his work, as well as the amount of care he put into it. I have always respected those in the medicial field because it's the one job that is almost guaranteed to mostly end in failure and heartbreak. No matter how good a doctor is, they cannot stop the march of death, and while they can rarely show it, I know how hard it must be on them. Kamui-kun is a bit softspoken, but he's helped me quite a few times - like when I collapsed in the snow during the winter. I often have to tease Kamui-kun about getting wrinkles from worrying too much or he'll ask too many questions about my problem.
Since Yamazaki-san occasionally helps out at the Clinic, I suppose I'll be getting to know Kamui-kun a bit better now. Or so I hope. I do rather like the boy.
At first, I only knew of Patchouli-san, rather than spoke to her. She took care of the library because she liked reading and she had some sort of illness that prevented her from being outdoors too much. But most of all I knew that she was Kohaku-chan's important person. Later we began speaking more and more as I got to know Kohaku-chan better, and I learned that Patchouli-san, albeit quiet, is very concerned for her well-being. The two of them make a good pair even if it confuses me a little. The important thing is that they're happy and they are most certainly happy. Or were. For a brief period of time, Patchouli-san returned to her world and has only recently come back to Luceti.
Apparently, Patchouli-san was trying to summon Koakuma, her servant, back to her and could have possibly brought herself back to this world. I know that she remembers Kohaku-chan, but now I worry about which is more important to her...
Guy-san used to post a lot of surveys and ask a lot of questions on his journal, and he was apparently a bit sweet on Nami-san, so I liked to talk to him. Guy-san's world used to be floating above the planet, but it was lowered just a few years ago, according to him. He enjoys traveling and learning and he seems to get along with Alfons-kun because they share a mutual love of tinkering with things. Since Alfons-kun and I used to talk so much before he left Luceti, I wanted to get to know Guy-san a bit, too. He's a very kind man and has been doing well with all the different friends he has here. He also runs Good Spirits, the bar in town, and while I'm not much into bars, it's interesting to go and see what he does there.
Wang Yao was my neighbor for a long time when I lived in the Community Buildings. He runs a shop out of his house that's full of little odds and ends and he once even gave me a big stuffed panda! I like him quite a bit and we used to talk and greet each other since we lived right next door. Then the black butterfly Tease came and the two of us ended up helping to defend our building together. I was impressed by his fighting skill and the fact that he was willing to watch my back during that time. We started speaking more as time went on until the draft came. We ended up on the same team and he used a Western rifle to take out enemies from afar, keeping those on the frontlines safe.
During a temporary lull in the battle, I went to speak with him and found out that Wang Yao is only an alias and that he's actually a country - specifically taht of China. While I found it hard to believe, there are stranger things here, so I took him at his word. We've since moved locations, but I hope to keep in contact with him. It isn't everyday that you meet a country after all. He also came to my aide when I fell on the battlefield.
What a strange, but interesting man. There's something almost...ethereal about Ginko-san, like he's neither here nor there. A soft-spoken and kind-hearted person, he comes from a world where there are spirits everywhere. He takes care of these spirits, called Mushi, and at one time, these things bled into Luceti. These Mushi were scared and while others seemed to be afraid of them, I was worried for the creatures. Spirits are very delicate creatures and I thought perhaps they were scared which would explain why they were attacking people. I told Ginko-san as much and he seemed a little surprised by my view. I suppose it was a little odd in hindsight. One of them lodged in my eyes, but they soon disappeared so I didn't think much of it. Ginko-san left for awhile after the Mushi disappeared and I haven't spoken with him much since then. I do hope to find him again, but he's always so quiet... Well, maybe one day.
Giles-san was someone from Buffy-san's world and seemed to be an older mentor or something to her. He's very responsible and often worries about the affairs of his home 'Sunnydale' and the Hellmouth that is nearby. I had to ask him what a Hellmouth was and I still don't fully understand it, but apparently it attracts bad demons and vampires to a certain location. Giles-san and his friends are responsible for keeping the world safe and his life is so interesting, if a bit dangerous. He talks about times he turned into demons and bringing people back from the dead and I get a little lost.
He is a very kind person though and I tried to help him get situated here. Over time we became good friends, what I might venture to say is the closest I've had to a close friend besides those from my own world. Then he left. He disappeared and left so many behind, that even when he came back, I was wary to get close to him again. He died and I couldn't bring myself to stay close anymore even after he came back. I'm sorry, Giles-san. I wasn't a very good friend in the end, and now you've left us a third time. I miss you.
He had apparently been in Luceti for almost a year and yet I'd never met him. He posted to the network asking how long people had been here and I sensed there was something a little off in the way he was asking. I ended up speaking with him a little and it seemed he was missing someone. The loss of whoever it was affected Ramirez-san greatly and his anger was being directed at whoever spoke with him. Rather than push him away, I invited him to the house so he wasn't out there alone. It took some coaxing, but over time we began to form a tentative friendship - mostly with me bothering him and him quietly and grumpily taking it. He reminded me of Hijikata-san a great deal, and then just like Hijikata-san, he left. I still miss talking with Ramirez-san sometimes and I don't know where his world is or where he went, but I can only pray to the gods that he is safe and well. Perhaps one day we'll see each other again. It may mean taking all the time to get to know him again, but I think I'd like that. He seemed to be in need of friends, and so I am.
