Yamazaki Susumu When Nagakura-san disappeared, a short while later, of all people, Yamazaki Susumu appeared in his place. But he wasn't like I remembered at all. While he still had the quiet, stubborn, obedient personality, he was older, a little softer around the edges, and apparently training to be a doctor. He knew my secret and watched me like a hawk for any signs, which made me want to hide it from him even more. Poor Yamazaki-san shouldn't have to bear the weight of this on his shoulders, too. He'd been adjusting well to the village so far, working at the clinic and getting to know the area and the villagers, when he disappeared. I suppose it was too much to hope that he'd open up to them, but I tried to keep that dream alive.
I know what becomes of him. At his age, considering what he knew, it wouldn't be long and that is a secret I will take with me to the grave. Ayumu-san never seems that interested in reading into the history books, which is good. I continue to destroy them so she can never see. She should never have to see. And for now, Yamazaki-san is safe, at least to us.
Nagakura Shinpachi As the captain of the 2nd unit and one of my original friends from the Shieikan, Nagakura Shinpachi was naturally one of my closest friends here. More than friends, we're family, and I miss him terribly now that he is gone. He had been here longer than I had and then vanished one day for almost five months, reappearing for a short time before leaving again. I hope he is sleeping better, wherever and whenever he is. I know he survives and for that, I am eternally grateful, even if survival is a curse for people like us. I wish him well, wherever he is, and I hope that the future has not yet come to pass for him. Even a few days longer with our friends, surrounded by that shining time we had, it will be a godsend and a blessing. Be well, Nagakura-san. Maybe one day I'll be able to see you again.
Hijikata Toshizou Twice now he has been to this place and twice I have seen him leave. Just when I think I'll never see his grumpy face again, Hijikata-san always turns up. He and Kondo-san are the ones who essentially raised me after I was given to the Shieikan and Kondo-san's family to lessen the burden on my family. I respect him very much and will follow his orders to the best of my ability - but that doesn't mean I have to take it easy on him. Even if he's technically my leader, he's also my favorite person to bother and the most fun to prank. As the assistant to the vice commander, I do my best to make sure he's comfortable. But as his friend? Well, I hope he starts keeping a poetry book again. That is always the best entertainment.
I never realized how much I missed him and how much I relied upon him, until I had to see him leave me twice. Knowing the fate he returns to is no easier, and it pains me to think of it. The world we live in will not be kind to us, less so to him because despite how he likes to be seen, he cares more deeply than I could ever pretend to do. I miss him still and hope his days are still young.
Kohaku I first met her when she was scared and alone one night. I'm never one to leave a child by themselves when they're scared, but when I met her I realized she is not a human child (or even really a she), but an angel. Kohaku-chan is the most innocent person I've ever met and while I do like to keep tabs on her and keep her safe... I worry that being too close to her will let her see the sort of demon I am and it might scare her. I helped her pick out May 1st as her birthday and I encourage her to keep close to Patchouli Knowledge since their relationship seems to be blossoming into something more than just friendship, or perhaps it already has. They are very attached to each other and I think it's good for both of them. Sometimes I miss speaking with her, but with so many new friends about, it's better that I stay in the background.
Sonic the Hedgehog After the portal incident with the blue man and being pushed in by that rat Hyuuga, I ended up being thrown over the forest and broke three ribs. I was able to get myself back to the village, but then this curious creature found me. Sonic-san is a blue hedgehog that talks and walks like a person, and he has helped me on more occasions than just the portal incident. We've spoken often after that and even went to war together when we were drafted. He and China-san helped me when my problem caused me to collapse on the battlefield again.
Sonic-san's willingness to help someone he didn't even know has impressed me a great deal. It appears that he and his friends tend to save their world time and time again, so perhaps that is why. I hope we can continue to be friends and stay acquainted with each other.
Ichinomiya I only know him by his last name, Ichinomiya, but that's not the only reason he's a bit of a puzzle to me. Ichinomiya-kun comes from the not so distant future and so he might hold the secrets to what happens to me and my friends in our war. The only unfortunate part of this is that he's not telling me a thing - which is the right thing to do, but somewhat annoying. Still, I'd like to talk to him about Japan and its future, to hear what the future will be like since I won't be there to see it.
Ichinomiya-kun also is in contact with the spirits and youkai, which reminds me of Hajime-san a bit. I once made the mistake of calling the youkai his pets and saying they were things, but I've since corrected myself as it seriously offended Ichinomiya-kun. I need to remember to call them 'friends' and 'people' instead.
Nekozawa Kirimi My interest in Kirimi-chan should be pretty obvious: she's a cute little girl and I love playing with children. She's bright, intelligent and every bit the innocent child she should be at her age. It's refreshing to see such joy being had in the world around her, and it reminds me of the time I spent playing with the neighborhood children back in Kyoto. I take comfort in her laughter and the fun she has just being a child.
It's unfortunate, however, that someone so young has been trapped here, especially since there are so few children her age around. She once had a brother here, but I haven't seen him much about lately. I fear since I've lost touch with Kirimi-chan that it's possible he might have been sent home. I hope she is doing well and that someday we can play together again.
Shirow Kamui Kamui-kun is the young leader of the Clinic where Yamazaki-san now occasionally works. When I first met him, I was struck by the boy's quiet nature and his responsibility to his work, as well as the amount of care he put into it. I have always respected those in the medicial field because it's the one job that is almost guaranteed to mostly end in failure and heartbreak. No matter how good a doctor is, they cannot stop the march of death, and while they can rarely show it, I know how hard it must be on them. Kamui-kun is a bit softspoken, but he's helped me quite a few times - like when I collapsed in the snow during the winter. I often have to tease Kamui-kun about getting wrinkles from worrying too much or he'll ask too many questions about my problem.
Since Yamazaki-san occasionally helps out at the Clinic, I suppose I'll be getting to know Kamui-kun a bit better now. Or so I hope. I do rather like the boy.
Patchouli Knowledge At first, I only knew of Patchouli-san, rather than spoke to her. She took care of the library because she liked reading and she had some sort of illness that prevented her from being outdoors too much. But most of all I knew that she was Kohaku-chan's important person. Later we began speaking more and more as I got to know Kohaku-chan better, and I learned that Patchouli-san, albeit quiet, is very concerned for her well-being. The two of them make a good pair even if it confuses me a little. The important thing is that they're happy and they are most certainly happy. Or were. For a brief period of time, Patchouli-san returned to her world and has only recently come back to Luceti.
Apparently, Patchouli-san was trying to summon Koakuma, her servant, back to her and could have possibly brought herself back to this world. I know that she remembers Kohaku-chan, but now I worry about which is more important to her...
Guy Guy-san used to post a lot of surveys and ask a lot of questions on his journal, and he was apparently a bit sweet on Nami-san, so I liked to talk to him. Guy-san's world used to be floating above the planet, but it was lowered just a few years ago, according to him. He enjoys traveling and learning and he seems to get along with Alfons-kun because they share a mutual love of tinkering with things. Since Alfons-kun and I used to talk so much before he left Luceti, I wanted to get to know Guy-san a bit, too. He's a very kind man and has been doing well with all the different friends he has here. He also runs Good Spirits, the bar in town, and while I'm not much into bars, it's interesting to go and see what he does there.
Wang Yao (China) Wang Yao was my neighbor for a long time when I lived in the Community Buildings. He runs a shop out of his house that's full of little odds and ends and he once even gave me a big stuffed panda! I like him quite a bit and we used to talk and greet each other since we lived right next door. Then the black butterfly Tease came and the two of us ended up helping to defend our building together. I was impressed by his fighting skill and the fact that he was willing to watch my back during that time. We started speaking more as time went on until the draft came. We ended up on the same team and he used a Western rifle to take out enemies from afar, keeping those on the frontlines safe.
During a temporary lull in the battle, I went to speak with him and found out that Wang Yao is only an alias and that he's actually a country - specifically taht of China. While I found it hard to believe, there are stranger things here, so I took him at his word. We've since moved locations, but I hope to keep in contact with him. It isn't everyday that you meet a country after all. He also came to my aide when I fell on the battlefield.
Ginko What a strange, but interesting man. There's something almost...ethereal about Ginko-san, like he's neither here nor there. A soft-spoken and kind-hearted person, he comes from a world where there are spirits everywhere. He takes care of these spirits, called Mushi, and at one time, these things bled into Luceti. These Mushi were scared and while others seemed to be afraid of them, I was worried for the creatures. Spirits are very delicate creatures and I thought perhaps they were scared which would explain why they were attacking people. I told Ginko-san as much and he seemed a little surprised by my view. I suppose it was a little odd in hindsight. One of them lodged in my eyes, but they soon disappeared so I didn't think much of it. Ginko-san left for awhile after the Mushi disappeared and I haven't spoken with him much since then. I do hope to find him again, but he's always so quiet... Well, maybe one day.
Rupert Giles Giles-san was someone from Buffy-san's world and seemed to be an older mentor or something to her. He's very responsible and often worries about the affairs of his home 'Sunnydale' and the Hellmouth that is nearby. I had to ask him what a Hellmouth was and I still don't fully understand it, but apparently it attracts bad demons and vampires to a certain location. Giles-san and his friends are responsible for keeping the world safe and his life is so interesting, if a bit dangerous. He talks about times he turned into demons and bringing people back from the dead and I get a little lost.
He is a very kind person though and I tried to help him get situated here. Over time we became good friends, what I might venture to say is the closest I've had to a close friend besides those from my own world. Then he left. He disappeared and left so many behind, that even when he came back, I was wary to get close to him again. He died and I couldn't bring myself to stay close anymore even after he came back. I'm sorry, Giles-san. I wasn't a very good friend in the end, and now you've left us a third time. I miss you.
Ramirez He had apparently been in Luceti for almost a year and yet I'd never met him. He posted to the network asking how long people had been here and I sensed there was something a little off in the way he was asking. I ended up speaking with him a little and it seemed he was missing someone. The loss of whoever it was affected Ramirez-san greatly and his anger was being directed at whoever spoke with him. Rather than push him away, I invited him to the house so he wasn't out there alone. It took some coaxing, but over time we began to form a tentative friendship - mostly with me bothering him and him quietly and grumpily taking it. He reminded me of Hijikata-san a great deal, and then just like Hijikata-san, he left. I still miss talking with Ramirez-san sometimes and I don't know where his world is or where he went, but I can only pray to the gods that he is safe and well. Perhaps one day we'll see each other again. It may mean taking all the time to get to know him again, but I think I'd like that. He seemed to be in need of friends, and so I am.
