[Things have been difficult for him lately and he's been avoiding "certain people" with a vengeance, but there is always one thing that he knows can cheer him up.

Souji opens his journal one day and with as bright and cheerful a voice as he can muster (which is kind of like rainbows barfing sunshine) he says:]

So who here is being a grumpy grump after the holidays? I know you're out there~

I've heard of at least two: the one with the spiky hair who hates being asked about it and the one with the skirt who hates it being called a skirt.

There have to be more, aren't there? [He degrades into what sounds like baby talk.] So who's being a grumpy-wumpy bear, hm?

I didn't mean the taste, I meant adding more sugar. [Gosh, you're as bad as Usagi...]

....Eh. [Souji gives what would later be called a Kanye Shrug, but for now it is the Souji shrug. He doesn't think it's dangerous at all.]

So is that what prompted this broadcast? Or are you trying to do something like Haruhi-san?

Oh, I was bored. [And still feeling a little awkward about that whole "Hey, you saw me at my most vulnerable touchy-feely moment" thing.]

And then I remembered there were people I could tease and that neeeever fails to entertain me.

Sometimes, I think you're a little absurd.

[She laughs though, not meaning it.]

But you're very sweet. And, I suppose I owe you an apology for the other day.

If you didn't, I'd be worried about you.

[He also laughs, but he means it.]

And an apology? Why, because you were spying on us?

[He laughs again, lightheartedly]

I wouldn't worry about it - I'm quite used to being spied on. I'm more upset that I didn't notice than that you got away with it.

[Her brow furrows]

I meant for teasing you. I wasn't spying, you were just in a public place.

[Teasing? Oh...right. Souji shrugs and shakes his head.]

I wouldn't tease people myself if I couldn't handle a little. It's been awhile since anyone here had the guts to do it, so it actually a bit nostalgic.

Oh? The guts, huh? And why wouldn't they? You're a sweet man.

[And let's be honest. Rei is a scary girl.]

I can be - to people who aren't spying on me.

[He kills most people who spy on him. Sooo not so sweet.]

But since we're friends, it's a little different.

[In fairness, she knows that he's a soldier and a little bit warped in a way. And that he'd never intentionally hurt her.]

Well I'm glad for that. I hope you'll forgive my impertinence, I really didn't intend to.

Water beneath the bridge, isn't that the saying? I wouldn't worry about it - we were in a public area, after all.
