[It's such a nice day out that Okita has decided to take the House 50 pets for a walk. Around mid-morning after he finishes his training, Okita can be found wandering around the village with the yellow chocobo Tammy in tow. And on her back? A disgruntled Saizou, wishing he could be down from the heathen bird. Tammy doesn't seem to care since Okita keeps plying her with treats to ensure she follows.

As he walks, he'll open the journal and turn on the video, showing him and the bird in the background.]

It's such a nice day out~

I wonder if everyone's in school or if they're on break~?

Are all the New Feathers settled in? If anyone would like a tour around town today, I'll be out with Saizou and Tammy~ Dog, unfortunately, can't take walks. Poor thing. But! That's okay~ He's happy at home. Come say hello! I really want to meet all of you.

[Wally's out for a walk as well, blending in a lot easier now he's found some real clothes and hoping that he can learn a bit more out of costume than in. The bright yellow bird catches his eye, and he wanders closer to get a better look.]

Man, that is the biggest chicken that I have ever seen.

[Okita stops when he hears someone comment on Tammy because he knows--

Oh, yup. Tammy is turning away and heading off toward the stranger, taking a grumpy Saizou with her.]

Ah! Hello~ Her name is Tammy. Isn't it, Tammy?

[The bird warks and says:] Tammy!

...you have a giant, talking chicken. That is both one of the weirdest and coolest things I have ever seen.

[He reaches out cautiously try stroking Tammy.]

So, are giant, talking chickens a thing here?

[She'll let him pet her! But just in case, Okita feeds her a small handful of greens to keep her attention.]

You must be new. [He laughs.] Most of the animals talk here.

Well, except for Saizou. [The pig grunts.] I think he just doesn't care to learn.

[You know what? It's EARLY MORNING and Sokka s here for his training session. Only he has something extra for Mr. Souji. Yeah, he's breaking the time constraints of the post. Where did you go wrong, Okita?]

Yeah, I only woke up here a few days back. [Wally admits. He doesn't add that he's already feeling a little wound up by not being able to leave the (to him) small area they're all confined to. Instead he focuses on the talking animals part, because that's new.]

But isn't that kinda weird? I don't know about you, but I'm not sure I wanna be able to hold a conversation with something that I might consider eating some time. [He eyes the bird uncertainly.] ...no offence.

[Ooohh...Tammy starts to cry and Okita waves a bit more of the greens in front of her face, stroking her beak to calm her down.]

It's okay. No one is going to eat you, Tammy.

[Behind, on her back, Saizou grunts again, almost rolling his eyes.]

It's quite strange, yes, but you grow used to it after awhile. I try not to eat any of the animals here on principle. But! That's neither here nor there.

[After calming the bird down, Souji smiles at the stranger.]

Welcome to Luceti. My name is Okita. May I ask your name?

[ORLYNAO. He didn't go wrong. He went right. Because a student who can break the confines of time and space? AWESOME.

Okita is at the barracks early like usual, warming up before Sokka arrives. When he hears someone enter, he lowers the wooden practice sword and smiles.]

Punctual as always.

[Oh, right. In retrospect, that was nooot exactly the most tactful thing to say in front of the bird like that. Wally winced and tried an apologetic smile, trying to push aside the instinct to think of it as a bird and think of her like just a different looking alien instead. It wasn't like he lacked experience with those.]

Man, I'm really sorry, Tammy. I wasn't thinking how that would sound.

[He added a few more apologetic strokes and glanced over at Okita.]

It's Wally West. New arrival and has a hidden talent for sticking his foot in his mouth.

[Tammy is busy eating and Saizou is simply staring at Wally like he's a doofus. But that's how Saizou looks at everyone.

Okita laughs and shakes his head, patting Tammy on the head.]

It's alright. I'm sure she'll forgive you.

It's nice to meet you-- [Western names...] West-san. Are you settling in here well enough? Minus the foot in mouth part?

[Wally's sort of used to getting that look from people, but from a pig is a new one. He reaches out to prod the pig's snout in retaliation without really thinking about how that might look.]

Huh? Oh, uh, Wally's fine. Most people don't call me by my last name unless they're mad at me for some reason.

[He glances away from Saizou briefly to smile at Okita. She's pretty nice and he's warming up to her already.]

Yeah, I think I'm getting everything down okay. I mean, other than the not really wanting to be here part, I guess the free food and housing's cool. Way easier than trying to find a job and all here. Somehow I don't think a place this small is going to have stuff like I did back home.

[OOOOOOH. The pig takes a snap at Wally's hand and stands up on Tammy's back, squealing and oinking at him.]

Saizou, stop it. [That only makes the pig angrier.]

Wally-san then. And yes, it is a bit of an adjustment. People try their best to make this closer to home, but...

[Okita shrugs slightly as if giving up that train of thought.]

Do you have any questions about this place? I work at the Welcome Center, so I might be able to help if you need anything.

[A slow, devious grin spreads across Wally's face at Saizou's reaction. That is just too good to pass up. Though he waits for the right moment, quickly switching to a too-innocent smile and answering Okita instead while he plans.]

I don't think so... I mean, it's hard to tell what to ask when I don't know a lot about this place to begin with. Hey, can we actually fly with these things? It seems really dumb to give us wings that don't do anything.

[Feigning total interest in Okita for now, Wally waits until he thinks the pig is at ease again (...as near as he can tell with a pig) before suddenly spinning around and trying to tweak that snout again.]

It's possible to hover with them an--

[Okita stops when Wally goes to tweak Saizou's nose. The pig backs up and snaps again, then simply launches himself at Wally's face - causing Tammy to startle and screech before running off in the opposite direction.]

Ah! Saizou! Tammy! No!

[Wally yelps as he finds himself suddenly facing an airborne pig bent on vengeance, which is not something he'd ever thought he'd have to come up against, really. He could easily dodge the attack, pluck the irate Saizou out of the air before he even knew what was happening, but he's not in costume and that would raise a lot more questions than he's willing to deal with right now.

So instead he moves just enough to minimise the impact, going down with a cry of-] Oh yeah? Now you're asking for it, porky!

[Torn between going after Tammy who is running circles in the road and trying to pry his pig from Wally's face, Okita decides to go after the one the most in trouble.

He runs over to Wally and manages to pluck Saizou off him. The pigs hooves are going a million miles an hour as he tries to stamp at Wally.]

Saizou! No!

I'm sorry. He's still a baby. Teasing him makes him very angry.

[He holds the pig to his chest and leans down, holding out a hand.]

Are you alright?

Hey, it's no big deal, really. [Wally laughs, taking the hand for balance more than anything and pushing himself up.] I'm fine.

[He'll have a few bruises, that's for sure, but he's had way worse than a cranky pig stomping on him and his metabolism means he heals fast, so it won't take long at all. Dusting himself down, Wally indicates the chicken frantically running circles not too far away.]

Since this is my fault, do you want me to help out with that?

Still, I'm sorry. [He looks down at Saizou and frowns.] Saizou, apologize!

[This only seems to upset the pig more and he grunts and squeals, waving his front hooves at Wally in an attempt to scratch at him.]

I'm glad you weren't hurt.

[With Saizou held firmly in his arms, he looks over to Tammy who is still running circles.]

...If you would?

...isn't it polite to give warnings before inviting villagers within ten feet of Saizou?

Or is it just me that he dislikes quite so passionately?

What are you doing with that bird, Souji?

[It's a giant chicken. Chickens don't go on walks. Not even talking ones.

...long-suffering sigh.]

[At some point, once Okita's away from his house, Homura makes sure to cross his path. It'll be the first time they've spoken after yet another awkward experiment, although from Homura's perspective, this one has been less jarring. Seeing Okita as a son is quite different than being in love with him, so perhaps this time it will be easier to reconnect with him. It helps that Okita seems to be in a particularly good move, likely due to the arrival of a certain New Feather.]

Okita. How are you doing this afternoon? [He grins a bit at the bird, remembering Tammy quite well.] I hope you have a firm hold on her today.

[Robert here is not a New Feather by any stretch of the word, but he is an astrobiologist, and that Chocobo - something he's never seen before - is summarily grabbing his attention in a death grip.

He is pretty much completely enamoured, floored and surprised all at once. Regardless of how depressed, terrible or in general melancholy his demeanour might be right now from wherever he's hiding to make this post, this is an opportunity for Science and it will not be passed up.]

What an absolutely remarkable avian specimen. Is that a ratite? It reminds me of a Dinornis robustus from extinct Terran biota...

At least I know the laundry's safe, if she's out with you.

[Who said he didn't? It was too hard to balance the bowl.]

She does like to get into the laundry, doesn't she? I guess she is a bird after all.

[And in the background, Tammy starts yammering on about laundry.]

[Hi, Hijikata-saaaaaan~~~♥ Souji waves happily at the video screen and tilts the book so Tammy can peck at it in greeting.]

We're on a walk! She can't stay cooped up all day, you know.
