[It's such a nice day out that Okita has decided to take the House 50 pets for a walk. Around mid-morning after he finishes his training, Okita can be found wandering around the village with the yellow chocobo Tammy in tow. And on her back? A disgruntled Saizou, wishing he could be down from the heathen bird. Tammy doesn't seem to care since Okita keeps plying her with treats to ensure she follows.

As he walks, he'll open the journal and turn on the video, showing him and the bird in the background.]

It's such a nice day out~

I wonder if everyone's in school or if they're on break~?

Are all the New Feathers settled in? If anyone would like a tour around town today, I'll be out with Saizou and Tammy~ Dog, unfortunately, can't take walks. Poor thing. But! That's okay~ He's happy at home. Come say hello! I really want to meet all of you.

[Robert is quiet a moment before he replies to this. It's hard to really say what's bothering him, but...]

... [Softly:] M-My... foster d-daughter here in Luceti, Miss V-Vivi Aislinn, was... r-recently sent home.

I-I... I miss her. V-Very much.

[It isn't just missing her, though. It's the realization that she's forgotten everything, and the fear of getting close to somebody and then having that ripped away, and the terror of it happening to any of his close friends or himself...]

Oh, yes. If she got out much more than she already did, she might never come home.

Knowing us, we may keep you very busy, Sokka-kun. I hope you don't object to that, either.

I wouldn't say that.

[And it goes for both things. He might not have chosen this world, but he has adopted it as best he can. It wasn't his choice to come here, but it is his choice to stay as long as he still has friends here. Going home, he knows what waits for them all and until he finds a way to change it, he can't leave.]

The last experiment is still sitting poorly with you, I take it?

[There is little else that can be said. A person going home means many things, sometimes good and sometimes bad. The way Robert is acting, it's bad.]

[Brb, Okita is turning away so he can double over and hide his laughter.]

[It's a selfish kind of bad. And so Robert tries to express this somehow because he feels so guilty.]

... Sh-she, she has a mother to g-go home to, and... a-and...

... Sh-she won't be alone, I hope.

[He hides his face in his hands and tries not to cry. He's cried enough.]

It's not unethical. Who wouldn't want someone they care about at their side?

...It is selfish, however. But that is how people are.

... I... I just want her to be happy, and safe... But...

... I-It... is terrifying that people can simply just disappear and then forget and...

[He trails off, his voice choked by a sob he tries in vain to cut off.]

Hm, and that would certainly be terrible, wouldn't it.

Oh! I met someone who knows what she is, actually. She taught me a lot about Tammy.

Meanwhile, Okita is able to get a breath in after laughing himself nearly to death.]

[He looks over at her letter, the letter he's practically immortalized since her loss, and rereads it. It's pretty much telling him to do the opposite of what he's been doing.

But it hurts so much to put his heart in other peoples' hands. Whenever they leave, they take another piece...]

[He could give Robert hope, but Souji is somewhat more of a realist when it comes to seeing people mourn those who are not dead.]

Then you're doing her a disservice, don't you think? She'd much rather see your smile than your tears.

[Realism is good. Robert would normally be one. Being an emotional wreck isn't making that easy, though.

But he... gets the point of what Souji is trying to say.]

It... is hard, to smile.

P-Perhaps I could try for her sake... [Not convincing, really. He will try, of course, but it will be awhile before he can really gild himself against the pain.

But with help... he'll be able to weather this, eventually.]

[I am so sorry, Robert. Souji is probably the worst person to look to for grief counseling.]

Mourning her as if she were dead just seems to be unfair to her memory.

[He actually flinches just a bit at that. It is like he's mourning a dead person, isn't it?]

In a way, I... s-suppose it might be.

But this is almost... worse, because I know she is still alive and well but I cannot see her, or speak to her... and all the time we had together will be like nothing, unless she somehow manages to r-remember if she ever returns...

[Souji might be able to tell that this is something that sparks real terror for Robert... because it is a profound fear of his.]

It happens.

But crying over it will do nothing to change what has happened. You can only move forward.

[No, it wouldn't. It most definitely would not.]

Oh? Did she tell you how to make Tammy stop crying and eating peoples' hair?

[It would be because then you'd have a mopey samurai on your hands. 8(]

Well, she told me about how to feed her better and what she's called and what they do. Apparently you can ride her!

Not like Saizou though.

[The pig grunts and whines, wanting to be let down.]

He apparently doesn't like having rides.

Hm.

[He draws on his pipe, breathing out a cloud of smoke away from Souji and his pets.] Useful.

[A small pause, and he glances back at them.] Outside of that... draft, do weapons see much use here?

[He hasn't seen any violence yet, but it hasn't been all that long.]

In a place like this? Nothing wrong with being busy. [He can always pass along some of the work to Ed or Hiccup if it gets too bad.]
